Howard,

Yes, Axion confirmed the industry standard math,<g> as well as the need to ground pin14. I seriously considered the 3rd fan, but for now will just use an "assisted convection" 2-fan approach: intake cool air with the bottom/front fan, and expel thru the top/rear power supply fan. (The 300a has its own fan as well.)

My new video cards, hard drive and OS's did not arrive this week. If I get everything I have put together, I may borrow the S3TRIO PCI video card from my P5-180mmx box and install Win95 OSR1 (the latest OS I currently own - W98 & WNT on the way) to do some burn in. Probably need a 3.5" drive for a boot disk for that process. Hmmm.

But the rugrats always impact my weekend productivity. Not to mention THE BOSS. <gg>

Paul

Mouse questions.

One. I have a couple of mice that when you move them will only produce an output only along one axis. For some unknown reason one of the code wheels doesn't move when you move the ball. If I remove the ball I can move the code wheels with my finger and easily produce an output along both axis. So I know the encoder is functional. Cleaning the ball and its compartment doesn't cure the problem. Any suggestions? Or should I plan on buying mice at regular intervals.

Two. I have one mouse that with the appropriate adapter can be used either with a serial port or PS/2 mouse port. I have tried to use other serial mice on a PS/2 mouse port. But none of other serial mice I have tried will work on a PS/2 mouse port. Hence my question is what is done to make a mouse function on a either a serial or PS/2 mouse port?

Although on the invoice as including a 2nd fan, the only way I can get to 2 fans is to include the power supply fan. Perhaps this is normal industry counting - like counting from zero.<g>
My case was advertised the same way. They counted the power supply fan as one of the fans. The second fan is mounted next to the power supply and both fans blow out. I have three 5400 RPM hard drives and did not add any additional fans. Unless you are running a couple of 20 watt 10,000 RPM hard drives you shouldn't need an additional fan.

Not unless you have dual 300 Mhz CPu's, 3 HD's, 3 CD's, Tape Drive and a Tape Drive in which case you add 6 EXTRA FANS. I would put more in if there were space my HD's still get very hot to the touch.
Next time I'm gonna get a $500 case with fans in every bay.
