John,

Good question, but I believe the answer is that most of us share good information with each other because we realize that, even though we do compete with each other in a sense, in a larger sense we all share the common goal of fighting the same almost impossible odds, and we are all human and care about each other more than we sometimes like to admit.

These threads are truly a great treasure, not to be underestimated or taken for granted. And, although we do not always agree with each other (why should we?), freedom of expression adds to the value of S.I. Yes, sometimes we argue, but I rarely see a squabble carry over a weekend.

Bill

I was wandering in the desert until I came to SI. SAP, and other threads of top shelf companies opened my eyes to the high caliber of information and opinion that's available. It amazed and amazes me still, how generous some of the most insightful people can be. That kind of generosity inspires the same, down the road. I don't worry to much about what motivates people to give up the good stuff, but I know it's out there, and I try to remember to give back when I can.

I would note, though, that even the best and the smartest gain by expressing themselves. First, you are forced to make your idea cogent to yourself in order to say it, and then once it is out, it is tested and also tests everybody else who hears it, bringing back response and criticism.

Truth builds. Halelujah!
