To All.....

From RB
Patience.

Rome wasn't build in a day.
Good things come to those who wait.
you know the deal.

Some selected quotes...

"NEC plans to ship the EMBASSY system in selected PC models in 1999." NEC, from EMBASSY E-commerce System Industry Statements of Support

"The capabilities of the Java Card platform will give the EMBASSY architecture an *open, standards-based* solution for security and smart card applications." SUN Microsystems from EMBASSY E-commerce System Industry Statements of Support

"The EMBASSY system, combined with RSA's family of cryptographic and security protocol component software provides the foundation for securing a wide range of hardware products, including PCs, set top boxes and communications devices," RSA ibid

"The significant additional value EMBASSY brings to the PC platform will be of interest to every PC vendor in the industry," ITE, ibid

"ITE has shipped 16.8 million pieces of Super I/O (Input/Output) controllers around the world, approximately 25% of global Super I/O market share." ite.com.tw

"According to a survey conducted by Computer Intelligence, in USA desktops priced under US$1,000 in the retail market maintained their market share under 10%. However, after one month, the ratio dramatically increased to 20%, which was followed with a huge jump to 40% last August. The PC market share for the sub-1000 PCs remained above 30% at the end of last year." ite.com.tw

"To continue to create the new products needed for future generations of PCs, we develop and maintain close working relationships with our customers, the leading PC and PC motherboard manufacturers of the world. Among these are such PC powerhouses as Compaq, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, IBM and NEC." smsc.com

"SMSC is a leader in PC I/O circuits, with about a 40% worldwide market share." smsc.com

I could add for hours.

WAVE is the center of a very large web [no pun intended]. We have agreements with manufacturers of 65% of the worlds I/O chips [SMSC and ITE]. The "partners" in this deal have partners that would benefit greatly from this technology.

One year from now we will all look back on last Tuesday as the Big Bang for WAVE, and laugh at the worrying done here.

Tony
Relax

I finally had a chance to listen to the conference call and I have to say that I can understand why those who are fairly new to the company would have questions about how WAVX makes money after listening to it. It's almost completely about the security end of things and frankly, the company hasn't made it entirely clear (to my knowledge)what if any cut they will take off of purely security-related transactions (those not involving sale of electronic content through the meter). Anyway, as others have been saying the key here is that this is a way to get the meter onto PCs and that once it's on board then we can start selling content through it and that's where the money will come. Regarding what sort of percentage we take, I think that varies a lot according to the contract the providers work out with WAVX. It definitely is contingent on volume, with larger sales volume leading to a lower percentage. To sell my novel over GSN, for instance, WAVX gets a 50% cut because it's such low volume. Anyway, it was great to hear the call and I'm more excited than ever. I'm going to try not to sweat the market too much. We'll get out of this rut soon. Looking forward to Comdex and to more announcements.

PS -- went over to RB and gave up after reading a few posts. It gets all but unreadable over there at times. Man, who has time to keep up with all of that!
