KJ-Thanks for the explanation. It does fill in a piece of the puzzle.

>>The more demand for data, the more storage devices will be sold, the
more demand for FC switches in the future.<<<

I still have a question though-
1)For instance,FC switches get OEM'ed to IBM for storage systems.
This part I understood from the beginning.
2)3COM is preparing FC/ATM standards, then interfaces. (Understood)
3)3COM now wants to sell OEM'ed FC switches(Gadzoox) or at least partnering with FC companies on the networking side of the equation.(Not as clear)
4)IBM and 3COM both now selling FC switches.I guess I'm not really sure who 3COM is selling theses switches too, unless they plan on going implementing FC out in LAN/WAN.

It just seems that FC may turn into a formidable networking system(SAN) that got it's early support and recognition from IBM, SUN ,HP, SQNT, because of it Storage components and then by Seagate and other Server companies because of data transfer.
Is this considered a Coup by the Storage companies(IBM et al.) to control what may turn out to be the next huge networking system(SAN) because it had it's roots on their side of the equation?

Does 3COM make their money on the interfaces?
I guess now that we have networking companies in the fray I guess more to understand.
