Why do you see permissions from the towns as any sort of hurdle? It is a rubber-stamp item for them. FCC is the enforcement agency and they have given full approval. Here in Calif. the CPUC has passed a waiver to allow unmetered electric power to each of 5300 pole top units due to the fact their power consumption is a known constant.

The only thing that will hold up further roll-out, IMO, is subscription from customers not meeting expectations. Many large companies are paranoid about modems already. Our company will buy you a network PCMCIA card for your laptop with little hastle, but if you want a modem card it takes more convincing. In addition, if you do get a modem card, then the COMM Techs want to install it making sure everything is password protected and there is a sufficient firewall in case you are running a modem program at the same time you are connect to the ethernet. In our case, corporate paranoia will hinder us from using ricochet anytime soon.
