Asia is holding up well, thanks to gvt intervention in Hong Kong and Japan, and feeling that Western economies will do almost anything to avoid the collapse of other major economies.

IMO, Greenspan's surprise rate reduction was made in order to buy time for safety nets to be put in place (for Brazil in particular), and I wouldn't be surprised to see him try to influence investors to seek value.
