Informix and Samsung SDS Announce Strategic Partnership; DataBlade Development Center
Established for Joint Development and Marketing

Business Wire - November 02, 1998 08:31

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998--Informix(R) Corporation (Nasdaq:IFMX), the technology leader in enterprise
database-powered solutions, and Samsung SDS, Korea's largest system integrator with $620 million in expected revenues in 1998, officially announced a
strategic partnership to integrate both companies' technical expertise and to promote technology growth.

The partnership establishes a DataBlade(R) Development Center within Samsung SDS Information Technology Institute to promote joint development and
marketing. The DataBlade Development Center is dedicated to developing a wide variety of Informix DataBlade technologies. The Informix DataBlade
Module plugs into a database to extend its capability to add new types of data, such as maps, images and Web pages.

DataBlades offer users a simple and effective way to extend their systems without having to devote their own internal resources to development.

A second part of the agreement calls for a "Future Solution Development Plan" for new products such as the Samsung SDS DataBlade text search engine
called TextGlider, which received certification from Informix. TextGlider is designed specifically to enable users to efficiently store, retrieve, update and
manipulate any new kind of data -- regardless of its nature -- on demand.

The TextGlider DataBlade is ideally suited for knowledge management systems, distance learning applications and digital libraries and information retrieval
systems. TextGlider has been released in Korea and is now available in the United States, Japan and China.

This co-marketing/cooperative business arrangement also includes increased participation by Samsung SDS in the Informix Developer Network (IDN), located
at informix.com. The Informix Developer Network is an aggressive program created for developers and by developers. IDN provides
advanced, technical information and knowledge transfer to the growing, worldwide Informix developer community.

"This strategic partnership with Samsung SDS shows Informix's commitment to provide its users with best-of-the-breed industry partnerships and solutions,"
said Kwang-won Kim, president of Informix Korea. "Samsung SDS's success as a leading integrator in Korea and its worldwide IT strengths combined with
Informix's high-performance technology solutions are very complimentary. Through this agreement we will extend the reach of our individual and joint
technology solutions to new markets."

Looking forward to the development of future technology, Hoo-yeon Lee, a director of Samsung SDS Information Technology Institute, said, "The competitive
strength each company gains through this partnership and through the DataBlade Development Center is quite significant and enables us to address the needs of
our customers in the global marketplace."
