To all-here we seem to go again.I feel that Ciena will announce some major contracts on Wed. It's about time, with so few customers, sales are bound to be up and down. Based on current FY earnings of $.85/s for Ciena and $1.93/s for Tellab's, one share of Ciena is worth .45 share of Tellab's. With today's price of $53 (down $2 in last 30 minutes) for TLAB's times .45=a price of $23.45/s for Ciena (it closed at $21.81). The trouble is Ciena's street "projected" profits for next year, go down to $.64/s and Tellab's go up to $2.45/s.My advice to Mike Birck was a strategic partnership rather than another disruptive merger attempt.
Time will tell. It takes real effort to read all 400 entries on Ciena's string daily, plenty of hype and BS(sorry boys that what an aggie calls it)

a hostile takeover could work in the $12/share range, and this would avoid much of the dilutive aspects typical of one of these friendly mergers

cien has shareholders' right plan to prevent this from happening. A lot of companies have that plan to avoid hostile takeover.
