11/03 10:12 Romania approves Viagra for prescription sale

BUCHAREST, Nov 3 (Reuters) - The Romanian Health Ministry has
approved the anti-impotency drug Viagra for sale on prescription in the country,
an official said on Tuesday.

"Market studies are still under way so I can't give you a figure on the expected
sales," said Gabriel Hanganu, representative in Romania for Pfizer Inc
<PFE.N> of the U.S., which manufactures the drug.

"Statistics show that around 25 percent of men over 35 in this country have
erectile disfunctions, so clearly this is a good market," Hanganu said adding that
one pill was expected to cost about 120,000 lei ($12).

Romania has a population of 23 million people.

Advertisements in several major newspapers in recent months offered both bulk
and retail sales of Viagra.
