Some big orders coming into NIR. They may have finally received an order from ICI paints. It could get really interesting. Anyone follow this stock?

Keith good to see you back, as you didn't post for a few days. Busy making money I take it. I noticed that too (Jordex). Wonder what's going on.

Regards, Wisam

ATTENTION ALL DAYTRADERS IMPORTANT TO READ

Well ladies and gentleman we now have an "audience"!! I was contacted by Scott Adams of the Dow Jones News Service, he is contemplating doing an article on "Daytrading in Canada". He is aware of this thread, so would like you all to participate.

He is interested in your thoughts on a number of Topics. He would like you to explain what problems (if any) that you have with the daytrading facilities in Canada. He would also like people that have moved their money off-shore to trade to contact him......not so he can report you to Rev Canada<ggg>, but to find out the reasons why you chose to do so. This is your time to either "vent, or applaud" the "systems available in Canada".

He is most interested in the contrast of execution times between Canadian facilites and US.

I talked to him by phone for about 20 minutes and "bled all over him" but for obvious reasons he would like to hear from all of you!! The good and the bad. His e-mail is:

scott.adams@dowjones.ca

Give him examples of the type of daytrading you do, and the problems or even the lack of problems, you may have!

Give it your best and "fairest shot"!

Couldn't have timed it better Keith, the message I am answering of yours is the stuff he wants!! If any of you are concerned about confidentiality issues, I would suggest you e-mail him of your concerns first, then if he allays your fears then send out your e-mail!!

I have given him my name and ph#

the Chief

Maybe its those high volume days when the market is going bonkers.
GL usually pulls in people from other areas, but it takes time.

I agree GL is pretty quick usually a minute or so for a fill to
reported back to you on micromax.

Although if it a order doesn't get filled within a minute I check its status and do a change order to check the bid/ask, usually the price moved away.

CL

>>> I have been bugging Greenline for months to get their act together in regards to trading times. Although greenline still averages around 45-60 seconds for a fill I have had market fills take as long as 10 minutes in the past couple of months.<<<<

keith: Nice to see you finally seeing the light;)...Don't waste your time or money on Canadian exchanges or brokerage firms. They are all non competitive and way behind the U.S. in their technology. The systems are set up to favour in-house traders who sit at their terminals and get 1- 5 second executions while you(retail client) stumble around on the phone and/or computer waiting 1- 10 minutes for a fill! And to top it all off there are but a handful of issues that trade with any "real" liquidity in Canada!

Enough venting for now:)

Cheers!

I just came across this thread and it's interesting to see I'm not the only one having problems with Green Line. It took me over 15mins yesterday to CFO 1 order. And that was just waiting for the WEB pages to update. I don't think I have ever come across a site this slow anywhere on the Internet! It's a shame about their performance because I think the design of the site and services they offer are quite good. I sent an email to Greenline about this but no reply as yet.

So far my best experiences have been with Royal Action Direct and E*trade canada. Investorline is a joke. All you can do is enter orders, you can't CFO, cancel or status orders online. You have to wonder what was going on in the minds of the people who designed that system. It's also important to keep in mind that Canadian securities laws require Canadian brokers to manually check orders entered online as opposed to the US where they can be routed directly to the exchanges. This fact alone says something about the attitude of the powers that be towards online trading in Canada.

Keith, with regard to moving your trading to a US broker can you do that if you are a Canadian Resident? Last time I checked Canadians were not allowed to have US Broker accounts, and Americans are not allowed Canadian accounts. I remember some controversy raging about this not long ago affecting the snowbirds. This is a good reason why the Canadians can keep their commissions so high and service so lousy.

Also on the topic of US brokers does anyone know of a US Internet discount broker who will allow settlement of Canadian trades in Canadian dollars?
