Tenchusatsu,

Re: " Compaq can only hope that HP/Intel misses its performance targets with
McKinley."

I don't think that I would count on this ... If the PA 8500 is any
indication, the .18um McKinley should be a very high performance
processor.

Make It So,
Yousef

Ten, <the notion that Intel is just a Digital copycat>
What conspiracy you are talking about?
This is a well proven fact. Digital tried to sell
the Aplha design to Intel and disclosed all major
ideas behind the design. Intel apparently
captured the ideas, but declined the offer. When
the PPro came out and Digital had obtained direct
evidences (using spies), they sue Intel for
stolen ideas which were protected in 10 patents.
If the suit had no merits, Intel would not settle:
with $13B in cash they could hold their defense
infinitely long. Apparently the evidences were
so strong that Intel decided to settle for $1.5B
total. What other proof do you need? It is obvious
for everyone.

<I remember John Crawford, ...I got the feeling
that the lawsuit upset him personally because
it suggested that his own baby was nothing more
than a ripoff.>
How the hell it is related to the DEC-PPro issue? Your
bud Crawford was not even close to the PPro project,
he was a Pentium man, see:

I suggest you go arrange a beer party with your
boss and then ask him for details...
