Hold up, I gotta jump in here on this one.. PA 8500 and IA-64 are completely (100% absolutely) different types of architectures.. PA is RISC.. IA-64 is VLIW (or EPIC, take your pick). One of the big performance improvements from the 8500 comes form improved branch-predicition and the HUGE onchip L2 (1.5Megs).. the performance of the 8500 isn't all that great, but it's a huge leap compared to the 8200 (I know cause I have an 8200 and will get upgrading to an 8500).
