Steve --you seem to know hardware so if you were selling a system to Betty Smith which hardware would you pick ?

I know a few PC sales people and all say Betty --all you need is this -- AMD machine to use the net with a V-90 56card. Why AMD ?--because there giving them away down the street in the other PC stores.

Now who believes here that AMD can manufacture at a lower cost than INTC or NSM. not me. AMD is dumping chips on the market --why I don't know but it could be that crazy CEO IMHO

Steve,

Re: "Hold up, I gotta jump in here on this one.. PA 8500 and IA-64 are completely
(100% absolutely) different types of architectures.. "

I totally agree with you Steve on the architecture differences ... I was
merely drawing the parallel of the design team of the PA-8500 is from the
same organization as the McKinley effort. I believe that this HWP organization
has considerable experience in designing high performance CPU's.
