Regarding Oracle, I had some email from an ex-ODIS person who now works with Oracle (and obviously wishes to remain anonymous). This person thought that Oracle has such a big R&D spend that they could catch up with ODIS anytime they wanted. Also he raised the specter that ObjectStore has some undiagnosed bugs deep down inside.

I obviously don't attach to much weight to either point.

I think the patent on virtual memory mapping will help to protect ODIS, and that Oracle will remain committed to the object/relational kludge until it's too late.

I'm all sure that ObjectStore has some bugs (all programs do of course), but all the evidence is that the product works really well in situations that require high reliability. The core product seems superbly reliable. There are always a few "nuisance" bugs though.

Interesting though to hear your news that some people at Oracle don't write-off ODIS. I really think most of them do.

To be sure, ORCL's been in kind of a shopping mood lately.....
news.com

ORCL is said to have hinted at 2 companies it picked up last week... hmmm... I still think of MSFT and SUNW as the most likely predators around though.

It could be that VSNT gets bought out on Nov 17th? It looks like the company's window-dressing itself:
biz.yahoo.com

This patent will reassure a would-be buyer who doesn't want to pay $xxM for a ''commodity''... VSNT is securing the only thing that's still worth something: its software code.

And taking into account yesterday's unusual heavy volume (7x average) on an upward trend... After all, VSNT's market cap is only $18.7M. Offering thrice this valuation --ie $6/share-- a SYBS or an ORCL could easily catch up with CA's Jasmine, not to speak of ODIS... But this acquisition will boost ODIS' stockprice as only one ODBMS-only vendor will remain on the stockmarket.

Now, I guess we do know what was the purpose for the Board Meeting of Oct 27th: the repurchase plan of up to 2M shares.
From nravilla's message on the Freerealtime board I'd infer that this repurchase plan will get set in motion on Nov 17th... Hence, the best is yet to come!
Sideliners: grab as much shares as you can while the repurchase pumping machine is still OFF !!
