<<The sooner he has resources, the sooner he has the weapons. The sooner we lift an economic embargo with him in power, the sooner he will garner the resources to export mass-destruction terrorism - AND, there is simply no evidence to suggest it will improve the lot of the general citizenry of Iraq.>>

Mr. K, If it is our intention to reestablish economic relations between Iraq and its neighbors we are doing an excellent job. The embargo the US imposed as a way to put pressure on Iraq and quickly bring about an internal revolution has failed. Yet, it has been so poorly managed that there now appears to be no resolution. At this point if the terms were met and the embargo was lifted, it might bring about the reverse results. That is, the UN/US would loose its footing on inspections inside Iraq. In the mean time the Middle Eastern Alliances who once saw the US as the only means for working out squabbles are now rethinking their involvement with the US and are consorting to establish new economic initiatives with Iraq.

Iraq's relations with it's neighbors are being strengthen in direct correlation to the US policy continuing. Even more importantly the surrounding countries are finding that they are able to establish alliances with each other in direct opposition to the goals of the US. And, BTW they all have weapons of mass distruction.

So, this is now looking like more than a failed policy. It looks like a counter productive policy. What's the point now? Are we trying to help establish the United Arabic Republic? We need a new superpower to have a cold war with?

Well since no body on this thread has given me one good reason to continue starving villagers and blocking them from getting medical supplies even though it is obviously counter productive; and the only arguement that remains is we don't know what else to do, I guess we will continue.

Obviously the principles this country was founded on, no longer apply to the President, government policy, or the conscience of the people. The democratic party that 25 years ago was strengthened by the corruption found in established society has become the guard against reason. Greed and materialism, to have what I want now, because I want it, has become the only winning arguement to any issue.
