Richard,

What is more amazing about your web site on the current inventory of MSFT web servers required to provide web services to the public and intranet is the shier number of servers!!!

If they only had the nerve to actually implement a few BorderManager Servers, they could cut this number by more than half!

That is exactly what Scott and I were getting at with Keithsha. Sure MSFT can make their web site run on only NT and IIS servers (and by the list of inventory you provided us - it looks like even MSFT needs the Apache Web Servers), but at what cost? MSFT simply throws more and more hardware and software on the problem until they overwhelm the problem.

The problem with this method of addressing an IT problem is that the resulting TCO to maintain 30-50 servers is huge! A BorderManager solution integrated into their site would dramatically reduce their web-server count and thereby dramatically reduce their TCO.

But MSFT is unique as an enterprise because they have sooooooo much much to throw around foolishly that TCO is not an issue for them. Unfortunately they believe that because its not an issue for them, it must not be an issue for their customers.
