Bill,

RE: Newt Gingrich

Totally agree. I concluded that as long as Gingrich, Armey and probably DeLay are the house leadership, the Dems will have, along with a willing media, a perfect set of "whipping boys" to use for future victories. This election has caused me to totally change my views on strategy. Republicans call themselves the "party of ideas" and my point is that the best ideas in the world will not play in todays' political environment as long as you have a chorus of "main stream" media talking heads willing to shoot the messengers.

They really need to take a page from the Clinton play book and make their leadership look more like what the media tells the nation the country is. How about a woman Speaker of the House, a black majority leader (JC Watts, are you listening?) and throw in pretty boy like Largent to win the soccer moms. (No disrespect intended for Steve, but let's face it he has great views and the camera loves him.)

The current leadership simply plays to the stereotypical views of Republicans and that's what modern media handles best, stereotypes and sound bites. It's time to get with the program and play by the new rules. Style over substance will win.

America has spoken and has informed me that they don't care for Newt Gingrich.

Why do people think this? Trent Lott is the repub spokesman pushing for impeachment that they show on CNN all the time. The problem with the republicans is they keep pushing these fringe issues like prayer in school, PBA etc which are divisive, and their religious affilation seems to contradict the multiculturalism of the coasts. Its not like Newt is standing up there pushing extremism (some republicans are but not Newt really). Or does the speaker set the agenda for the entire party - is that whats going on?

BTW why doesnt Newt stand by his wife when he gives a speech like the other politicians. Hes always alone it seems.
