LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES AND ORCKIT COMMUNICATIONS TO JOINTLY MARKET DSL PRODUCTS FOR EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA

FOR RELEASE: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1998

HILVERSUM, The Netherlands -- Lucent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: LU) and Tel Aviv-based Orckit Communications Ltd. (NASDAQ: ORCTF) announced today that they have signed a sales and marketing agreement targeting the growing Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) market in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
Based on the agreement, Lucent will be able to offer Orckit's ADSL products to Lucent's EMEA customers requiring high-speed local access solutions today. Orckit's FastInternetÔ ADSL system combined with Lucent's access and data networking equipment creates a complete ADSL solution that extends from the central office to a subscriber's home and provides the infrastructure to deliver high-speed Internet access and other broadband services.
"We are pleased to join together with Lucent in a strategic relationship to provide advanced, end-to-end ADSL solutions based on Orckit's DSL technology to customers in EMEA," said Mr. Izhak Tamir, President of Orckit. "This will enhance our ability to offer comprehensive access solutions to our customers."
