NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Microsoft (MSFT) and Qualcomm (QCOM) will form a joint venture to provide secure and speedy wireless data communications between large computer networks, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. Several big telecommunications companies, such as Airtouch (ATI) and AT&T (T), are expected to link up with the joint venture. The Microsoft-Qualcomm venture comes after Motorola (MOT), Nokia (NOK.a) and Ericsson (ERICY) announced the formation of Symbian, a company that will develop advanced wireless phones based on an operating system from Psion (PON-LS), not on Microsoft's Windows CE system.
