Buy a diesel powered vehicle.

Fuel will store longer than gasoline. You'll get better mileage.

And since there is no ignition system, you'll have minimal problems with electronic ignition and timing matters.

But in reality, I haven't heard of any problems with automotive chips and were their one with the system clock, one could merely roll it backwards in order to spoof it.

Regards,

Ron

Tim,

I wouldn't worry about an embedded system problem with cars. To date there is NO proof of potential embedded system problems. Newer luxury cars have the most embedded systems. So, in theory ... IF there is a problem ... luxury models may have greater propensity to experience a problem. But, most likely NOT with the basic operation of the car. Maybe with some of the fancy add-on gizmos. Again, nothing has been proven one way or the other.

Some commercial & emergency (i.e., fire trucks, ambulances, police) vehicles DO have a problem. Relates basically to maintenance checks. Non-compliant vehicles just won't start after roll-over. Last year state of Texas found that 35% of fire trucks purchased since 1985 had problems.
