I would think the optimal way for IOM to buy Syquest if they wanted to would be to purchase selected assets, like intellectual property, manufacturing equipment/facilities, etc. from the bankruptcy estate, assuming that Syquest files, as opposed to buying the entire company (even at a discount) and assuming its many liabilities.

Don't forget, Iomega has filed a suit against Syquest in France, so there is some common ground (ie, IP) between the two.

Once Syquest takes chapter 11, Iomega can buy Syquest just by assuming its debt -- flush all those common stock holders and all that. It can't get any cheaper. Syquest management could keep their jobs near term, etc. sounds like a great play to me.

You guys are worried about IOM going up. Have you considered the fact that SYQT has not traded for 3 days. NASDAQ wants additional information. I bet Syquest is talking to someone with common ground.

If Iomega lets Syquest fall into someone else's hands, IOM price will fall back into the cellar. If I were you guys, I'd keep an eye on developments in Syquest, for its fate will determine whether IOM continues to climb.

The last thing Iomega needs is another $100 million ad campaign on Zip drives to fight off a new Syquest backed by a partner with deep pockets.
