Hope Boucher &
Co. are keeping up with these kind of industry-support announcements:

If they aren't, we're in trouble! But they should be savvy enough and well enough connected to keep up on this stuff.

Jim: Re. the Fibre Channel articles (thanks), Boucher no doubt is keeping up with that segment of the industry, as he noted in the conference call last month, when he said FC is not ramping as fast as prognosticators project, but that Adaptec is "not walking away from Fibre Channel", may use some of the technology in future products, if demand for FC is high "we'll do it", may have a product in 1999, but he doesn't believe investing in FC now will make money.

Anyway, it seems most of the FC effort has been shifted to JNI, which specializes in FC. In the announcement in September of the LOI to form a strategic alliance with Jaycor Networks (JNI), Adaptec planned to transfer "certain technologies and assets to JNI in return for an equity stake in JNI. Adaptec and JNI will enter into joint manufacturing and sales relationships to support current customers and expand the market for fibre channel products." Nice words but what has transpired has not been reported. I assume the alliance is in effect.

Adaptec ad on page 251 of the 17 Nov PC Magazine: "Your Pentium II workstation is on SIMMER. SCSI will crank it to a ROLLING BOIL." Claims the Ultra2 SCSI adaptor gives a 47% jump over the fastest Ultra ATA solutions and the caching SCSI adaptor gives a 110% boost.
