TO ALL Re DELLHEAD EARNINGS ESTIMATES. Just to be a bit perverse, has it occurred to anyone that by NOT posting our earnings estimate we are having a NEGATIVE impact on the stock, implying to the outsiders who look in here that we are not confident about Dell this quarter? Any thoughts?

Patrick, it looks like our posted numbers have a BIG impact on the whisper number at these sites.

Paul Hauk, whispernumber's president, declined to discuss how he calculates the whisper number, but says he collects "about 90 percent" of his research data from Internet message boards. Shannon Puls, a former consultant at KPMG Peat Marwick and a partner at Webtools which runs EarningsWhisper.com, says his site also mines the message boards for numbers, "But we give greater weight to our contacts in the banking, computer, and communications industries."

Patrick,
Hi!! <<I don't want to collect estimates via private or e-mail then post the results after Dell reports. The reason is after Dell reports all the estimates are moot and I am looking forward. I was trying to have fun while waiting for the earnings report.>>

It has always been fun....are we as important to some as we may have alluded to at times? What really hits me initially....who on this thread that has followed Dell for two years or more hasn't been correct ??? We just may have a larger following than some of us may think...tell me that the research we have available here is any better anywhere else...gosh, if I was an analyst I pay the bucks and join...or at minimum I'd lurk constantly...yet, If I was Dell management I'd be a little sick of "beating the whisper number"....the numbers have been nothing short of outstanding..repeatedly beating that suggested whisper number would annoy me...whether or not we influence anyone throwing out a whisper number we will never know...but, thanks Pat for some awesome times and laughs...I suppose this is what one would refer to as a dilemma...

Best, kemble

Re: earnings estimate
Why not try posting lower than expected earnings estimates? That way Dell can easily exceed estimates and the stock can run up after results as well as before
