It may not be a gross underestimation, they've just entered mass production on the chip. There's a certain cycle time from ordering to when the foundry ships them the parts. They may be right on track in terms of supply, but not have a ton of chips ready for the retail market.

I've noted that the online prices for Banshee have crept up a little. Must be very high demand out there.

3dfx is damned if you do/damned if you don't on chip availability. They have/had too much V2 inventory and now they're scrambling to meet banshee orders. I'd rather have them scrambling to meet orders than have too much left over.

Michael

That's funny...The fact that 3dfx underestimated OEM demand makes me very happy.

P.S. Tried to short Iomega today but there were no shares available. Damn.

Regarding forecasting and limited Banshee chips:

If they (banshee chips) are limited, and there is a surplus in PCI cards and a shortage in AGP cards, then somebody forecasted demand incorrectly. If the chips are not the bottleneck (and AGP production line is), then no big deal. Would imagine that speculation here is correct, that AGP parts from big guys are all going to OEM's.
