OT: RISC NT and POSIX compliant

>>Yes NT will run on your beloved SGI machine!..<<

NT dropped support for Power PC a while ago and recently MIPS chips simply due to market demands. Alpha still going but not much sales as a percentage.

>>NT = POSIX Compliant.. you did know that didn't you?

NT was never POSIX compliant, dropped from the first version for the good reason joe mentioned.

Joe,

I know, that's why SGI may go bankrupt any day, and from
what I understand, the MIPS chip will be ready for the
Smithsonium in a few years. Personally, I can't wait
till our entire Branch is forced into NT systems. I will
love to see UNIX worshippers told they can't practice
their religion anymore. It might be worth sticking around
just for that.

You know, that's prehaps the biggest reason I like NT.. just cuase it will piss off all the old unix farts.. I like unix, but I'm not about to pray at the alter like these guys.. I mean there are guys at the university who are writing software at home in their spare time.... software that they plan to SELL for LINUX!!!!!!.. I hate to tell you, but if I run LINUX it's cause I'm too cheap to buy software.. If I wanna run UNIX at home and I'm not cheap I buy Solaris.

Translation: another meaningless attempt by the Gov't to
create a standard for UNIX that never got off the ground
much, and nobody cares about.

True, yet another problem with UNIX.. there are HOW MANY different flavours, all imcompatible in terms of binaries..
