Once they finish destroying the RISC CPU vendors then I will agree with you that they are at their peak.

Actually, long time ago I made a mental note to myself that the day Intel CPUs become RISC based (which they are now but not to the extent that I'm looking for) or VLIW based, will be the start of Intel's demise and I will position myself to short them. I don't think Intel will ever manage to destroy the RISC vendors as most of those people's money comes from software any ways. Also, in the short term, Merced is a bigger threat to Microscum than to other RISC (read unix) vendors.

AMD does indeed have a license for KNI. It's in the October issue of MaximumPC. I agree that AMD's execution sucks which is why I'm not considering going long them instead. If AMD does execute well with sharptooth I may consider it.

My main point is that there is very little demand where Intel is headed. The hardware capacity has outstripped the software needs. Intel may very well exceed 1 GHZ, while the majority of the market buys cyrix/amd at 500 mhz.
