TD, there may be a recession in 1999, but that does not mean the market will crash. This bull market has managed to divorce itself from the concepts of revenues and earnings, at least for a short while. The S&P is going up even as earnings decline sending PE's into the sky. It will crash, but maybe not for a while. Be very careful with shorts AND longs in this market, anything could happen and without much notice.

This stock market is so funny.

If earnings growth is 2%, the market is completely happy sending the various indices to the moon. If earnings growth slips to -2%, stocks appear to be completely worthless sending many down below book value.

One other interesting piece of information I saw was that layoffs are much worse this year than any other year in recent history.

FWIW - I'm thinking on shorting the markets favorite tulips again and will probably start positions this next week.

Does anyone on this thread actually short anything anymore (other than a day trade)?
