>>> Charles, you might be in for a rude awakening if you think an impeachment inquiry is a "show trial"....Now that the politics of the election cycle is behind us, Mr. Hyde quietly but firmly is pursuing the truth. <<< When Hyde was younger he was too smart and agile to get stuck holding this bag. Two days ago he was one of those apparently wanting Newt's head. Why? Because he has the most thankless job in the universe, that's why. And he paid for it with an exposure of his own sexual affair. Not really a feather in his cap at the end of a long career that had previously looked to be a decent footnote in the history books. If the impeachment gets to the house floor it will meet defeat there. IMHO. I also believe Army and the rest of the crew are mostly going to lose their leadership positions coming up soon, (now that Newt has exploded as both I and Doonesbury had predicted lately), unless they have some special leverage on an individual basis I don't know about. Newer members want those jobs and this is a great excuse for them to take over. Gotta have scapegoats, though in general they were all pretty happy with the impeachment proposition 2 months ago. Starr will make scapegoat number 2 when (I presume) he is convicted of leaking evidence illegally. That should about do it and then it is business as usual for the republicans, they hope. (Whee, whee, whee, whee, all the way home...) Question is what will the republicans talk about if they can't sling mud? All the issues they are in love with are 2/1 losers with the electorate. Oh, and I agree with one of the republicans who said Nov 4 was day one of the presidential campaign. Kerry is in New Hampshire. Hang in there, there is more to come. I was going to give this posting up for a while but I see that now the political cycle is stuck at on all the time. That's lucky, since this is what we do for fun. See you round the bear-baiting ring, Chaz
