<<Plus WFMI, purchase of Amrion and the beginning of the web site shopping for WF and OATS as well as the increase in private label vitamins and supplements at their stores could put much pressure on GNC. To be honest, I have not researched GNC at all. Many people who work out do look to them for amino acid supplements and protien mixes.>>

A couple of years ago GNC purchased a natural foods chain in Portland OR called Nature's Fresh Northwest. We used to live in Portland and shopped regularly at Nature's and found it a very well-run chain. The expectation at the time was that GNC would take Nature's national, which would broaden GNC's appeal and put them more directly in competition with chains like WF and OATS.

We no longer live in Portland, so I don't know what's going on with Nature's, but there doesn't seem to be any sign so far of a national or even regional expansion of the Nature's chain.

You can draw any conclusions you want (or none) from this, but I thought I'd mention that GNC seemed to see a need to move into the same kind of market, but so far seems unable or unwilling to execute.
