Antoine, thanks for a thoughtful post. You said >Thin film heads to MR to GMR is happening awfully quickly. I think some drive makers have been dragging their feet, trying to retain TFI heads longer than necessary - probably for cost reasons. IBM shipped the first drive with MR heads in 1991 - a century ago in tech time.

roq, nice comments re: vertical integration and outsourcing. maybe the most successful companies will be a a successful (in hindsight, it has to be hindsight) hybrid of the two.
