Nice first post to our little thread here. Care to elaborate? All I see is trash talk and finger pointing on the Yahoo thread (shock!).

Thanks

bad news on Monday they claim.. creative labs and ati? oh please...

I suppose anything is possible, but I wouldnt put my money on the short side.. From a t/a point, possibly - but from an f/a? nah- next 2 months promise to be quite active for TDFX

Im sure we will see a pullback of some sort, but the trend is up for now.

I read the Yahoo thread. No bad news listed there. Lots of posts on Intel's i740 (Banshee is much better and the i740 is a very low-end chip - hurts ATI more than 3dfx). More posts on ATI, again, that's been discussed plenty here (and Marc pops in every once and a while to remind us). I think that ATI will be very tough competition and will not fold under pressure.

As for Creative Labs, I see no reason for them to dump 3dfx shares. They may be engaging in a "Bear Hug" takeover strategy, buy they'll have to announce a tender price above current market which is what puts the pressure on mangement to show what they could do to better it. That would be good news for 3dfx.

The Gateway announcement on Monday will be good, even though it has been known for a while. Only so many people read these threads and the news hitting PRNewswire will mean that it will show up in the widespread press as well as in focused news threads like this on. I'd expect another announcement this week as they build towards Comdex.

All the announcements to come will do for me is show that management is executing to their announced strategy of using Banshee to win OEM deals and then coming out with Banshee2 next year (early) to lock the market down and a new high-end chip to regain the technology lead. A $1 jump up or down in a single day doesn't make much difference in the long run.

Michael

ps - As for the "Slash" posts on Yahoo, they are similar in many ways to what Sun Tzu posts here, IMHO (sorry, Sun Tzu). The main difference is that Sun Tzu actually talks about the company and the long-term prospects and then weaves in the short term technical readings where Slashnscalp focusses soley on the short term technical reading. I'm sure that "Slash" would prefer $1 jumps up and down (mor opportunity for trading) while Sun Tzu would prefer a slow steady rise so he can capture the premium on his covered calls and keep rolling them forward. Big jumps upwards steal some of the potential profit from your stock holdings if you use covered calls.

Bad News on the Doorstep, I wouldn't take one more step.

See Yahoo thread.

Good call. NOT!
