This list just blows my mind -
I found this list on the web regarding EDS

Listing all new patents granted in the last 1 month
----------------------------------------------------

PATENT No. DESCRIPTION
5,832,463 Automated system and method for checkless check transaction
5,832,458 System and method for electronically auditing point-of-sale transactions
5,832,452 Hotel database inquiry system
5,832,451 Automated travel service management information system
5,828,887 Network based program loader system and method of operation
5,828,833 Method and system for allowing remote procedure calls through a network firewall
5,825,364 System and method for constructing a three dimensional model from two dimensional images using poissan probability
5,823,781 Electronic mentor training system and method
------------------------------------------
Is EDS a patent machine like IBM????
I read the summary of some of these patents and they are generally very broad. Can EDS derive significant royalties from patents similar to Texas Instruments? I believe the patent office is making a big mistake by allowing software patents; however, since they are, then I AM VERY HAPPY TO SEE EDS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY.

Here is a more realistic rumor-monger list for Les' successor. Awhile back I suggested that the new CEO would come from either Europe or the military. Dick Brown of Cable and Wireless fits the first profile. For sure it won't be a military guy, since Colin Powell is not interested. My guess is that right around the first of the year we will have the new guy, and the first 90 days will be a wild ride, especially for anyone who is not close to revenue.

What's news on the recruitment and pay scenes

And the finalists are?

Electronic Data Systems Corp. seems to have whittled its hunt for a new chairman and CEO to two candidates. The search for Lester M. Alberthal Jr.'s successor likely will be finished by year-end.

EDS has considered numerous corporate stars for the post. One informed individual says the initial list included: Dick Brown, CEO of Cable & Wireless PLC; Ed Zander, COO of Sun Microsystems Inc.; and W. James McNerney, head of General Electric Co.'s aircraft unit. AT&T Corp. President John Zeglis and Teligent Inc. CEO Alex Mandl already have rebuffed EDS's approaches, other people close to situation report. All of the individuals declined to comment.

Retired American Airlines CEO Robert L. Crandall, who many suspected was in the running, is not likely to be picked, says one person familiar with the search. Mr. Crandall could not be reached for comment.
