Chao Ji VCD? Nick decided to say something......................

c-cube.com

What video format is the government in China supporting?

A:
The format that the Ministry of Information Industry in China is supporting is Chao Ji VCD. The format is expected to be formally announced in early November. The new standard is supported by C-Cube and is compatible with the CVD format that C-Cube has been shipping since June of this year. The format selection united technological superiority and format compatibility to bring the best format solution to Chinese consumers.

Q:
Do you believe the market for VCD and Chao Ji VCD players in China will continue to grow? Why?

A:
Yes. There are about 400 million households in China of which about 220 million have TVs. A TV is required to view a movie played on a VCD or Chao Ji VCD. The installed base of TVs is increasing about 15 to 20 million a year. From its invention in 1995 through the end of 1997, there were fewer than 28 million VCD and Chao Ji VCD players installed in Chinese homes. This represents less than 15% penetration of the 220 million unit television installed base.
