Michael - What sources were you using.?
I was using RCR News.
There the claim is for US:
end of 97:
GSM = 1 million
TDMA = 3.8 million
CDMA = 1 million

end of 98:
GSM = 1.5
TDMA = 8.5
CDMA = 5.3

From these numbers, one can see that CDMA is clearly the fastest growing. Maybe the difference is US vs. North America.
