(Nasdaq: ITWO) moved up 1, or 4 percent, to 24 13/16 Tuesday after EVEREN Securities upgraded the enterprise software firm from a "market perform" rating to intermediate-term "outperform." Also, Warburg Dillon Read started coverage of i2 with a "buy" rating and analyst Andrew Roskill set a 12-month price target of $32 a share. In his report, Roskill said i2 was "a pure play" investment in the supply chain management applications market. The hype for i2 has come fast and furious of late. Last week, BT Alex. Brown started the stock with a "buy" rating. In its third quarter, i2 returned a profit of $7.2 million, or 10 cents a share, on sales of $94 million. First Call consensus expects the Irving, Texas-based company to earn 12 cents a share in its fourth quarter and 36 cents a share for the fiscal year. In the fourth quarter of 1997, it made $1.9 million, or 3 cents a share, on sales of $62 million. Its shares motored up to a 52-week high of 42 ¼ in July before sliding to a low of 9 ¼ in October. Eleven of the 17 institutional investment firms following the stock rate it either a "buy" or "strong buy." ____________________________ I haven't followed i2 closely but did the Soundview analyst ever change his downgrade? i2 is in my IRA and will remain a long term holding. Perhaps the 4th Q is shaping up to be a good one and the analyst feel comfortable upgrading in the face of ** 10% margins and a pipeline topped out at 500 million** for 99.<g> i2's 99 forecast should be finalized by now, I wonder if it changed. Stock is building a nice in the 23-26 area the past month. Merrill Lynch covers i2 and until feb 99 one can browse their research @askmerrill.com . You just have to register. Denis
