Why are they the enemy? How large is too large? Those contributors merely split up the funds into smaller parcels as some companies and organizations did and reimburse their employees and members. Can all political contributions be quantified in terms of cash contributions? What about contributions of time, advertising, etc. by political action committees? They use issue ads that target candidates as well.

It's tough to jail people when the ruling party is in power and their contributors exit the country.

Charles, outlawing large contributions not only won't happen, it wouldn't work, and we have a lot of experience to see just how it would leak. I still think we see the tip of the iceberg on what is reported, particularly in the game of quid-pro-quo on everything from jobs (i.e., Web Hubbell) to positions after one leaves office or for friends and business buddies.

Outlawing contributions will just drive it further into the world of the covert.
