That one. And also this one
THE PEOPLE SAID NO! By Michael Rudon Jr
In a previous article, I had indicated that it seemed ignoble to cast aspersions on an Opposition which was composed of three mediocre politicians at best, lacklustre and without substance. Dean Barrow, the new leader, surprise, surprise, then took on a cast of second-rate entertainers and proceeded to act out his version of Belize's own 'Another World.' Since then, the 'new and inproved' UDP has been like ticks on the body of the Government - no real threat, but a constant annoyance. Somehow along the way, Dean Barrow forgot, and needs to be reminded, that the people said no!
Dean Oliver Barrow, a consummate politician and legend only in his own mind, has been standing in front of the PUP and slinging the usual slander and malicious propaganda - sort of like charging into battle armed with a slingshot. He has really taken the word opposition literally, and has opposed everything Government has done since its inception.
Well, I have news for you, Mr. Barrow. The best thing that you and your pesky sidekicks could do is sit down and shut the hell up. All you have done is be a nuisance, and not even a good one at that. Dean O has either gotten too old and jaded in the game, or the people have gotten smarter, but whatever the case, this new UDP is transparently false and not much different from the abusive, negligent party of not so long ago.
First of all, this entire victimization crap. Dean has jumped on a bandwagon and has declared himself the saviour of all supposedly victimized persons. The fact of the matter is, Barrow does not give a damn about anybody, but cares only about what they can do for his political career, which has been lukewarm at best. After the UDP truly victimized the BCB, turning it into a government propaganda tool and rendering it forcibly partisan, they now turn around and have a plan to save the BCB. Hmmm! makes you wonder, doesn't it? Then Dean O declares that they will open a hotline for all 'victimized' people, and have put steps in place to help them in their time of need. Tell me something, O Leader of the Opposition, when you say that you will help the victimized people, does this include the over 860 retrenched at Christmastime, and the many public servants who thereafter felt the wrath of the UDP hatchet. Tell us, O great one!
When the dishonourable and barely literate Melvin Hulse gets on the radio, practically in tears, and bemoans the fate of the 'victimized,' sobbing and weeping - How will they eat? How will they feed their families - and so forth and so on - are they forgetting that it was the UDP who made victimization a reality? Oh, Grandma, what a short memory you have!
Lies, lies, lies - the story of Dean Barrow and the UDP. In the midst of his victimization spiel, the Leader of the Opposition then announces that they will open a new newspaper. I seem to remember him saying to the press and the public that they had discontinued the smutty PULSE because they were looking for a new media thrust, a new way of reaching the public - I guess in UDP language this translates to owing so much that they had to declare a Belizean style bankruptcy, opening later under another name to escape from creditors. Barrow has lost all credibility, but what's new?
Like I said, sit down and shut the hell up. The Government is doing a fantastic job, and the country for the first time in five years is showing signs of forward movement. If the UDP cared about the country and the people, they would just leave the government alone to revitalize the nation. Constant sniping and backbiting just for opposition's sake does nobody any good, least of all Belize and Belizeans. On a misguided crusade with an army of misfits, Barrow is seeking to hold the country back, all the while spouting platitudes and moral rhetoric.
Just to finish off here, Mr. Leader of the Opposition, a little reminder. The UDP spent countless dollars on their pre-election campaign - the worst smut, malice and misinformation available - bombarding the public with lies about the members of the PUP. The UDP also went on an unprecedented giveaway splurge, showering the public with last minute 'gifts' and promises. Despite all this, Mr. Barrow, the UDP suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the PUP - 26 seats to 3 - Ain't life grand? In other words, the people said no! No to the broken promises, no to the slander, no to the malicious persecution, no to the lies, no to the UDP! Nothing has changed, Mr. Barrow, so think about that. When you jump up on the rostrum tp perform the same old tricks, remember that you're not as smart as you think you are. |
