Welcome to the world of the semiconductor industry, where booms to busts are common, compensation is ultimately tied to a company's stock price, and layoffs are right around the corner. Time and time again I have seen companies which have chosen not to rewrite options lead employees and executives to walk across the street to competitors. The replacement employee/executive ultimately get those same options at the magically "repriced" value. Obviously, the question really is how to make the repricing system more fair, but still incentivize a highly competitive, highly combustible industry.
