Daniel, I certainly agree with you that I would rather own a company that is run prudently versus one that takes on debt irresponsibly. However, there are many dimensions to running a company and shareholder value is a major one. Not only to reward the owners of the company for their investment, but the stock of the company then becomes currency that spends every bit as good as money. Les has failed badly in this respect.

IBM has purchased over 127 million shares of their own stock in the last several years thereby increasing the value of each share. EDS somehow has managed to add another 1.2 million shares to the number outstanding thereby diluting the value. Anemic revenue growth and earnings have depressed the value of EDS stock.

Still, Les has been rewarded handsomely for this performance. I can understand why Calpers thought he was over compensated and his 36.7 million dollar retirement package is a disgrace.

My opinion only,
Dan
