Well jbe, that does surprise me a bit. However, take a look at the liberal spin the headlines show.

Let me analyze a few for you..:-)

INDUSTRIAL GROUP PLANS TO BATTLE CLIMATE TREATY
Industry opponents of a treaty to fight global warming have drafted an ambitious proposal to spend millions of dollars to convince the public that the environmental accord is based on shaky science. Among their ideas is a campaign to recruit a cadre...

In other words a crazed anti-environmental group is about to pull the wool over everyones eyes by spending millions of dollars on a bogus campaign.

Science Academy Disputes Attack on Global Warming
The National Academy of Sciences has taken the extraordinary step of disassociating itself from a statement and petition circulated by one of its former presidents that attack the scientific conclusions underlying international efforts to control emi ...

How dare a crazed scientist attack the wonderfully benign and sensible international community.

Intense Lobbying Against Global Warming Treaty
If the Clinton Administration is struggling to strike a deal on global warming at talks in Kyoto, Japan, that is partly because warring domestic interest groups have spent many months -- and millions of dollars -- on highly effective lobbying campaig

Another reference to the millions of dollars to pull the wool over sensible peoples mind.

At least a couple of the references could be considered balanced reporting, however, I would be interested to see the rest of the story to know for sure.

jbe, I just typed in Global Warming in two major newspapers. The first one USA today. The second from the Washington Post. These are the headlines for 1998. Let's just see how balanced they really are. :-)

Byline Date Number of Words Section Page
100 Scientists: Get ready for global warming Traci Watson Thur., Oct. 29, 1998 602 NEWS 3A
100 Coral in peril as reefs suffer worldwide Kathryn Winiarski Mon., Oct. 19, 1998 738 NEWS 4A
100 Reports vary widely on cost of stopping global warming Traci Watson Tues., Oct. 13, 1998 579 NEWS 22A
100 July breaks worldwide temperature record Traci Watson Tues., Aug. 11, 1998 400 NEWS 3A
100 Gore puts heat on Congress over global warming program Traci Watson Wed., July 15, 1998 325 NEWS 2A
100 'A window on the future' of weather

Not one trace of controversy regarding the legitimacy of Global Warming....

Let's try the Washington Post...

THE DAY THE SEA STOOD STILL; ANCIENT ERUPTIONS, GLOBAL WARMING AND MASS DEATH
It may have been the blast that changed the world.

GLOBAL WARMING ASSERTIONS ENHANCED; STUDY CITES FLAW IN DATA COLLECTION THAT UNDERMINES POSITION OF SKEPTICS
It is one of the most perplexing scientific questions of the global warming debate: If the planet is getting hotter, as many experts contend, why do satellites show Earth's atmosphere growing cooler?

JULY WAS WORLD'S HOTTEST MONTH ON RECORD; HIGH TEMPERATURES FUEL GLOBAL WARMING DEBATE

Now if your theory is correct and we have very little liberal bias in the major newspapers, than there should be about 50% pro-Global Warming articles, and 50% anti-Global Warming articles right?? Especially since 18,000 scientists have signed a petition stating there is no evidence of Global Warming!

Now look at the evidence objectively jbe. What does it tell you? Is there a bias in the news reporting on Global Warming or not? :-)
