Cat, glad to hear you're newly optimistic :-)

>>..and even after years of marriage, they hold
hands, they are happily a team,..<<

This reminds me of my father. He's 75 years old and for
most of his life, he's been a full fledged SOB. I
don't know that I would consider his a happy marriage
when I was a youngster. But
later in life, after he retired, he found a new sense
of love for my mother. I talked to him at length about
this 4 or 5 months ago. One of the first times I was
able to communicate to him in a "close" way. I could
tell his love for my mother was this sense of "awe".
He couldn't believe that he had been lucky enough to
end up with somebody like my mother.
He's still a very grouchy person at times, but deep
down he now better realizes the "treasure" he has with my
mother.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, if there's
hope for my father, there's hope for anybody changing
for the better. I don't completely understand it
myself, but it was pretty inspirational.
