Hi Mike, re: Dell from Reuters. >>>>>But the ravenous pace was not enough to satisfy some investors, as the stock fell to $66.63 in after-hours trading, adding to an earlier $2.75 decline that occurred during the regular session ahead of the report.<<<<

Dumb question time:

1. What is "after-hours trading?"

2. How does a stock open at a different price than it had when it closed?

3. Sometimes on TV, Maria B. or someone looks at something off-screen and says a stock is going to open higher or lower? What are they looking at, and is it available to the rest of us?

4. Sometimes a stock has really bad news before it opens, and it opens late. Why?

Thanks for all your kind assistance,

CobaltBlue

MB. Am I the only one with the lightbulb in my brain turned on? Here is what journalists have written about Earthweb:

"New York-based EarthWeb sold 2.1 million shares in a deal headed by J.P. Morgan. Online broker Wit Capital was the "e-manager" handling online distribution of the IPO. More than 11.5 million shares changed hands."

No doubt there are lock-ups in place on all shares except the 2.1 million shares plus over-allotment issued in connection with the IPO. (I haven't checked yet, I'm still in shock.) So if the lock-ups are in place then the float on EarthWeb turned-over about 6 times today!! Am I missing something here?

It seems like this bubble is way out of control.

MB>>>>>>>The quarter was a great one (as reported). I sold 1/2 my shares@ 71 3/4 2 days ago<G>.Now I gotta hope MIKEY can work his magic at 9AM on CNBC for the rest of it. DELL HELL YELL FELL SELL (smell has 5 letters in it)<G>. Don't know who was "wronger".....me to hold... or you not to short prior to EPS. We both lost money<G>. I did put in a limit order on Thursday @ 73 to sell 1/2 of the remainder and it traded at 73 a few minutes later, but not enuf to pick up my limit order(lost by a nose)<G>. I have mixed emotions about limit orders. Started using them when I got hit for a 2pt pop on LLY 2wks. ago. Maybe I should use them when buying, but not when I want out.
