Paul, Portola will probably tape out in 3 or 4 weeks. Whitney - the integrated 440 BX and the Portola graphics core - should tape out real soon now - if it hasn't already taped out. Hmm... Whitney may have taped out before Portola, with the Portola core. Intel certainly can do miraculous things! Scumbria

Intel Invetsors - Intel Has to Replace Some Pentium II Motherboards. Looks like Intel has run into a little Quality Control problem on a weird combination of Motherboard and Power Supply. Paul {========================} infoworld.com Intel to replace flawed motherboards By James Niccolai InfoWorld Electric Posted at 5:31 PM PT, Nov 12, 1998 Intel has been alerted to a glitch in some of its desktop motherboards that has left some recent PC buyers unable to boot up their machines, a company spokesman has confirmed. The problem affects Intel's SE 440BX-2 motherboards, which are designed for use with Pentium II-based desktop PC systems, Intel spokesman Robert Manetta said. Only boards manufactured during the month of October were affected by the problem, and the issue only arises when the motherboards are used in conjunction with a certain type of power supply, Manetta said. Intel won't say how many motherboards were affected by the problem. "Everything coming off the production line now is fine," Manetta said. Users will know if they have one of the faulty motherboards because when they unplug their system from a wall outlet and then plug it back in again, there is a chance that the machine won't reboot, Manetta said. Intel has given a test kit to its PC manufacturing customers to help them identify the affected machines and will replace the faulty motherboards at no charge. RE: Camino will support AGP 4X and I would asssume the Portola chip will run at the 4X spec. Portola will probably tape out in 3 or 4 weeks. I would think that they would have to finish Portola first if they want to integrate it with the 440BX.
