By that time, the Whitney was also completed (or nearly so) and ready to tape out.

That is interesting. It provides the Portola design team two different debug vehicles, which may come in very handy, particularly since AGP 4x is yet to be debugged.

It is interesting to me how much information is available about the status of Intel designs in progress. In contrast, NSM is very tight lipped, and AMD spreads huge amount of hype about their unfinished products.
