Kemble.
After sacking out in the corner on my new green Dell sofa( the one with the two built in recliners and built-in retractable cup holder with the (simulated) Persian Dell rug in front of it, I came over to the the new Dell 400mhz Optiplex to find that you have posted the essence of whole ball game. Simple minds work in simple ways and come up with simple answers.
The mind says why-oh why, is it not glaringly obvious the the Dell team has just accomplished what you just said ??- grow a now massive corporation consistently at a 55% rate and will CONTINUE TO DO SO. And the game is only in the early innings.
Wonder if Mr Rukeyser guests will mention Dell again on Friday.

Sig

Hi Kemble!!!

The day after earnings usually is followed by analysts upgrade/downgrade. Analyst does not cite whisper number in their rating, but based on the performance. They should have a hard time if they want to be negative:
Revenues up 51% and yet Net Income if up 55%! EPS up 65% because of 18 million shares buy back. ASP does not come down. Gross margin steady and opearting expenses declined. Inventory down to 7 days. Internet sales 10MM. All geographical areas continues to grow smartly. Now where is the negative? Unless they are manufactured like CPQ getting more into direct sales (which will alienated distributors), Gateway getting into cheaper model etc.

If there is an analyst who downgrades Dell tomorrow, I like to know his agenda.

"Dell is the next Dell" is happening.

Regards

PAL

Good morning Kemble,

I like to think of a lot of the messages that come on this thread every three months as PEST (for the uninitiated, that stands for Post Earnings Syndrome Tripe). This PESTilence has no serious analysis behind it, but is self-serving in trying to justify a short position. The fact is that there were no negatives in the earnings report, an a few exceptional positives. First, we saw that ASP remained constant, which means that Dell is selling a higher proportion of high end machines. Second, we saw inventory fall to 7 days. Finally, we say the CCC drop even further. What's not to like?

Oh, this is awful say the naysayers. Well, I challenge them: just what is awful? Don't tell me about the implications for future growth. Your crystal balls are as murky as mine and thus that is just conjecture. Tell mne about what is wrong in the way Dell executed. Be specific. Numbers count!

TTFN,
CTC
