John, If missing the whisper number is all that counts, making money by shorting stocks would have been a piece of cake. *sigh*

Since there is no recognized source for whisper numbers by definition, there is no accountability associated. So one can make a good estimate of a companies earnings by doing due diligence and then inflate that by a factor of 30% or so and circulate that as a whisper number. That should make the stock drop from where it should have been based on the original estimate (if indeed accomplished by the company).

But it isn't that simple unfortunately, as more and more investors are wisening up to the whisper number game. I will probably have to revise my ask of 15 for the DELL 2001 strike 90 leaps upwards now that I know that EG was actually 64%. In fact the stock may not drop at all after all, who knows.

Now why are some journalists still quoting the EG at 55%, when DELL says clearly in their web site that it is 64%! That is really unfortunate.
