DATA RACE Announces Next Generation Be There!(TM) Direction Friday, November 13, 1998 05:00 AM
SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- DATA RACE (Nasdaq: RACE) announced the new FlexPlace product direction for Be There!(TM) at today's annual shareholders meeting. The new architecture will expand Be There!'s revolutionary Telepresence(TM) -- the appearance both to yourself and others that you are working from the office, regardless of your physical location -- to emerging media and connection technologies. This architecture is presented in a diagram on the web at datarace.com. The new generation of Be There! Remote Access systems will integrate with Voice over IP and operate over higher bandwidth media such as xDSL, cable modems, and ISDN, in addition to ubiquitous POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service).
The emergence of higher speed connectivity to the home, though still in its infancy, demands a solution that makes it possible to work over each individual's media of choice. The Company's plan is to support popular access methods, whether via an Internet Service Provider's (ISP's) local Point of Presence (PoP), direct-dial connection of other methods such as local access Virtual Private Network (VPN).
To help bring this vision of FlexPlace to a greater market, DATA RACE is developing a ground-breaking new Be There! client which installs on customers' existing PC hardware. DATA RACE demonstrated this new client software at the shareholder meeting today. The Company is also well along in the development of a next generation of Be There! server to interoperate with existing remote access servers.
The Be There! Remote Access system is the only product available in the market today which provides Telepresence to all elements of the corporate communications network simultaneously over a single phone line -- the communications medium used for an estimated 97% of all remote access today. This revolutionary product also provides Telepresence -- enabling you to get your office phone calls and faxes and to have all the office telephone features -- such as transferring calls to colleagues or conferencing from your computer. Once connected to the corporate office via the Be There! system the user has simultaneous access to the corporate computer network, fax server, and telephone system. Thus, remote workers can work just as they would in the office.
"Thirty years ago, I was one of a small group that created what is today the Internet," said DATA RACE President and CEO Dr. W.B. Barker, "This integration of telephony onto the data backbone and over the last mile is the most important evolution in networking in that time."
