House convenes Friday for first business meet

The Prime Minister has summoned the first business meeting of the House of Representatives, which is to take place on Friday, November 14.
At this meeting the Governor General will deliver the Throne Speech outlining the new government plan of action for the new fiscal year 1999.
At this meeting also, the government has signalled that it intends to introduce new legislation providing for greater decentralization and autonomy for the Belize City Council and for the Town Boards of Corozal, Orange Walk, San Pedro, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, Benque Viejo, Dangriga and Punta Gorda.
The new legislation will also require that the Mayor of Belize City and of each district town be a person directly elected to this post by the electorate.
The agenda for this House meeting shows that the Government is planning to authorize a loan of some Bze $14,600,000 from the Caribbean Development Bank to be made to the Development Finance Corporation for on-lending as low-cost housing loans.
Another loan of Bze $5 million is being considered for credit unions and NGO's under a special mortgage programme for low - cost housing.
