INTC is having record quarters, but they are not the semiconductor industry. INTC's total capital spending, even in good years, is barely enough to support AMAT, much less all 2000+ SEMI members.

Furthermore, as someone else recently pointed out, even INTC is busy reducing headcount. That is not the action of a company about to go on a capital spending spree.

The fact remains that semiconductor sales as a whole are picking up only relative to very poor recent quarters, and even SIA's own forecast for next year would not bring sales back to 1997 levels. Plot the numbers on a graph and see for yourself.
