They are in different colours. If it's not appearing that way on your screen, perhaps your browser's "appearance" preferences have been mis-adjusted?

The most apparent reason for that happening, that I know of, is that you originally read messages using say www.exchange2000.com and then went back to the thread using talk.techstocks.com. Since URLs are different, the current address won't be in your cache, so therefore your browser thinks that you haven't seen the message yet. Another reason that this can happen is that eventually, URLs are removed from your browser cache. So, if you last read a thread say 3 weeks ago, and now new messages are posted, if you click on the thread header, all messages appear in blue, rather than read messages in purple and unread messages in blue.

You can avoid all of this simply by clicking on the red new message count rather than the thread header. The message count will take you directly to your first unread posting in the thread.
